Asphalt Manager

HK Contractors in Idaho Falls is seeking an experienced Asphalt Operations Manager to lead our asphalt plant and paving operations! This leadership role is responsible for overseeing asphalt production, paving crews, safety programs, quality control, equipment utilization, and financial performance to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and profitably.

• Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture.
• Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and regulatory requirements, including OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental standards.
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, and employee training.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.

• Manage daily asphalt plant and paving operations.
• Develop and execute production schedules to meet project deadlines and customer needs.
• Monitor equipment performance, production efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and field personnel to support successful project delivery.

• Ensure asphalt mixes meet customer expectations and DOT specifications.
• Partner with quality control teams to maintain high-quality production standards.
• Proactively address and resolve production or quality concerns.

• Manage operating budgets, including labor, materials, equipment, and fuel costs.
• Monitor production metrics, profitability, and key performance indicators.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Support estimating, bidding, forecasting, and project planning efforts.

• Lead, mentor, and develop plant operators, supervisors, and paving crews.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Support hiring, training, scheduling, and workforce planning activities.
• Conduct employee evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in asphalt plant operations, paving, construction materials, or related heavy civil construction.
• Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong understanding of asphalt production processes, mix designs, and paving operations.
• Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental compliance requirements.
• Valid driver's license.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience working with DOT projects and specifications.
• Knowledge of asphalt plant automation systems and production software.
• Heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience.
• Leadership development training or certifications.
