Idaho National Laboratory needs Facility Specialists to ensure safe and efficient operations of laboratories and infrastructure that power groundbreaking nuclear research and cutting‑edge technology development supporting the nation's energy resilience and national security. You'll be responsible for safe facility operations, potentially operating and maintaining facilities and building installed systems while reviewing lessons learned to ensure hazards have been identified and mitigated in assigned facilities.
Your work includes explaining and implementing building management policies and procedures in accordance with Tenant Use Agreements, interfacing with facility operations, project management, crafts, and customers to perform work professionally, ensuring facilities are properly maintained and ready to use, and identifying potential improvements and efficiencies. You'll submit and approve maintenance work requests and orders, coordinate with researchers and mission‑enabling organizations to maintain laboratory spaces efficiently, conduct reviews of system compatibility, allocate personnel to job assignments, identify facility deficiencies, and ensure asset management and budgeting support mission readiness.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Responsible for safe and efficient facility operations. May operate and maintain facilities and/or building installed systems within applicable facilities. Review lessons learned and ensure similar conditions/hazards have been identified and mitigated in their respective structures, systems, and components for assigned facilities.
- Explain, promote, and implement building management policies, procedures, and methods related to building service and performance measures in accordance with the established Tenant Use Agreement (TUA) and requirements documents. Ensure that safety rules and requirements are maintained throughout the facility and that building‑specific procedures are current.
- Interface with facility operations, project integrators and/or project management, crafts, subcontractors, construction management, customers, and tenants to perform work in assigned buildings in a professional manner.
- Ensure facilities are properly maintained and in a ready‑to‑use status (i.e., lights replaced and clean facility).
- Identify potential improvements and efficiencies and implement changes. Work with management to identify and develop goals and actions for continuous improvement.
- Submit, review, screen, and approve Maintenance Work Requests and Work Orders, approve and release work activities for facility systems under their cognizance.
- Work closely with impacted individuals, which may include complex engineers, project liaisons, appropriate Project Managers, facility operations and maintenance managers, and others to understand upcoming construction, program, or project needs.
- Work with appropriate staff/counterparts to ensure as‑built drawings for their facilities are current and redlines have been incorporated. Ensure that all components identified in the drawings are installed and in working order and appropriate PMs have been written and are in the system for issue.
- Observe work activities in their assigned space and act to correct any deficiencies observed (e.g., failure to follow procedures, practices, postings, and permits).
- Department and building liaison for completed project acceptance and turnover. Ensure operational procedures and preventative maintenance justifications are prepared before project closure. Lead technical project planning and reviews. Monitor and report status of projects as required.
- Participate in facility system assessments which include system health, short/long‑term planning, and strategic investments.
- Respond to tenant complaints and concerns and provide technical support regarding facility systems and structures. Help tenants maintain operational excellence. Periodically review compliance status with management.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and feedback to workers and other building supervisors. Mentor more junior employees as required.
- Support occurrence reporting, issue identification, and conduct building inspections.
