HK Contractors, a CRH company and leading heavy civil construction contractor, is seeking a Manager of Asphalt Operations to lead and oversee all aspects of asphalt production, paving, and related construction operations throughout the Idaho Falls market. This leadership role is responsible for driving operational excellence, safety, quality, profitability, workforce development, and customer satisfaction across multiple asphalt projects and facilities.

The Manager of Asphalt Operations will work closely with area leadership, project management teams, plant personnel, field operations, maintenance, and customers to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for asphalt production and paving operations.
  • Develop and execute operational plans to achieve safety, production, quality, and financial objectives.
  • Oversee asphalt plant operations, paving crews, equipment utilization, and maintenance programs.
  • Manage project execution to ensure schedules, budgets, and customer expectations are met.
  • Lead workforce planning, staffing, training, performance management, and employee development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor operational performance metrics and implement strategies to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Collaborate with estimating, sales, project management, quality control, and maintenance teams to optimize operations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety and environmental regulations.
  • Manage operational budgets, equipment investments, production costs, and resource allocation.
  • Review production reports, project costs, labor productivity, and equipment performance data.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and public agencies.
  • Support bidding, planning, and procurement activities for future projects.
  • Investigate and resolve operational issues affecting production, quality, or schedule performance.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, process improvements, and cost savings.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in asphalt production, paving operations, or heavy civil construction preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience leading multiple crews and operational teams.
  • Strong understanding of asphalt plant operations, paving processes, quality control, and construction best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, equipment fleets, production schedules, and project performance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, environmental, and construction safety regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and make informed business decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing large-scale highway, transportation, municipal, or heavy civil paving projects.
  • Knowledge of asphalt mix design, quality assurance, and materials testing practices.
  • Experience with in aggregate, asphalt, or vertically integrated construction organizations.
  • Lean construction, continuous improvement, or operational excellence experience.
  • Professional certifications related to construction, project management, asphalt, or safety management.
