The College of Science and Mathematics at Augusta University has an open position for a Lecturer in the department of Physics and Biophysics. The position is driven by enrollment growth and is primarily teaching, but include both service and scholarly activity components. Teaching responsibilities include lecture and/or lab courses within the undergraduate degree program in Physics and core science courses for both science and non-science majors.
The selected faculty member will be expected to participate in service activities supporting the department, college, university, and/or profession. This position does not meet the requirements to be on tenure track.
Teaching – Teach Physics and/or Astronomy lectures and laboratory courses, with possibility of laboratory supervision. Other core courses may be considered.
Service – Participate in service activities supporting the department, college, university, and/or profession
Scholarly Activity – Depending on the position, some portion of the workload may be assigned for research activities.
ResponsibilitiesTeaching – 90%
Teach Physics and/or Astronomy lectures and laboratory courses
Participate in service activities supporting the department – 10%
Participate in service activities supporting the department, college, university, and/or profession
MS degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Physics or related discipline
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)’s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
