Job DescriptionThe City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for positions of Instructor Aide/Ice Guard for the Fall and Winter seasons, October 1st through April 5th. These positions will be responsible for assisting with Learn to Skate classes. It is anticipated that these positions will work 5 to 15 hours per week, multiple evening weekend shifts.
Essential Functions- Support the Learn to Skate instructor by taking attendance, helping students who need extra assistance, demonstrating skills for the instructor, and leading the class in any games or drills.
- The aide/Ice guard will also be expected to work public skate sessions and assist with handing out skates, assisting the public, ice guarding and clean-up after the session.
- It is necessary for the individual to have strong skating skills.
- Position requires availability to work, days, evenings, and weekend shifts.
- Performs related duties as required.
A. The Instructor must have strong skating skills.
Some knowledge of City geography; some knowledge of basic maintenance procedures; some knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to above duties. Ability to work in all weather extremes; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public; excellent customer service skills a must.
Qualifications:
May require employees to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or be on-call. Final candidates will be subject to a background check prior to employment.
Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc. (moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally moving up to 80 pounds). Talking, hearing and seeing essential to the performance of the job. Daily exposure to weather extremes and seasonal conditions. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, discriminating thinking.
Frequent local travel required in normal course of job performance.
