The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities:
Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth

A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense‑owned Nuclear Power Training Unit‑Charleston. Job Description

Transition of Operations within the Naval Reactors Facility Engineering Department has an opening for an Intermediate, Civil Engineer that would be interested in a multidisciplined role developing building and system cognizance for startup and operation of the new Naval Spent Fuel Handling (NSFH) Facility being constructed at the Naval Reactors Facility. This individual will be a member of a multi‑disciplined engineering team working to develop facility systems for operation to ensure a smooth transition from construction to operations.

The ToO Facilities Engineering unit is responsible for preparations for first use and maintaining the facility and facility systems for spent fuel handling operations in the new NSFH facility.

Engineers applying for this position will assist this new unit will by:

  • Planning the start up in the new NSFH facility. This includes facility and facility system preparations for taking cognizance of facility systems after the facility and systems are commissioned. These preparations are done in accordance with the applicable requirements.
  • Incorporating ToO Servicing Facility Furnished Equipment associated with the start of the NSFH facility. This includes development of the associated software (manuals and maintenance procedures) that accompany this SFE.
  • Developing and/or validating the local procedures for the operation and maintenance of the associated new facility and facility systems.
  • Reviewing, commenting, and concurring with NSFH facility interface requirements, specifications, and constraints as an end user of the new NSFH facility.
  • Interfacing and integrating with Expended Core Facility Recapitalization (ER) organizations, NRF organizations, Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. (BPMI), and Naval Reactors on unit‑specific deliverables and ToO Facility Engineering project initiation activities.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

  • Knowledge or experience maintaining facility structures, systems, or components. (i.e. building and infrastructure, control systems, electrical, and civil/structural).
