The Project Manager at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) will lead complex, high-visibility projects that directly support the nation’s energy security, nuclear innovation, and critical infrastructure resilience. This role is integral to advancing INL’s mission in nuclear technology, cybersecurity, and grid modernization by delivering projects that strengthen U.S. leadership in advanced research and infrastructure development.

This position is located at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC), home to the core of the nation’s nuclear research and development capabilities. MFC enables the design, fabrication, testing, and post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuels and materials within a unique set of specialized facilities designed for remote operations on highly irradiated materials. MFC supports numerous groups, including universities, industry partners, national laboratories, international research organizations, and other federal agencies.

Our team operates on a 4x10 schedule with every Friday off.

The selected candidate will serve as a trusted leader responsible for delivering technically complex projects safely, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining alignment with mission priorities and regulatory requirements.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the full lifecycle of assigned projects, including planning, documentation, execution, control, reporting, and closeout.
  • Define project scope, technical requirements, and deliverables in collaboration with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional partners.
  • Establish and manage technical, cost, and schedule baselines; monitor performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules and coordinate design, construction, and facility modification activities to ensure alignment with scope and infrastructure requirements.
  • Oversee construction execution and ensure effective interface management among engineering, operations, procurement, and subcontractors.
  • Manage risk proactively by identifying, analyzing, and mitigating project risks throughout all phases.
  • Ensure compliance with BEA policies, DOE requirements, safety standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with procurement and customers regarding General and Special Conditions; support subcontract negotiations and amendments.
  • Review inter‑organizational agreements and subcontract packages for completeness and conformity with project requirements.
  • Lead and facilitate formal phase, milestone, and project closeout reviews to validate scope, cost, schedule, and risk performance and obtain required management approvals.
  • Perform project closeout activities, including final cost reporting and records completion.
  • Build and develop high-performing project teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement and implement lessons learned to enhance project execution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and team leadership.
  • Understanding of engineering and technical project execution principles.
  • Experience applying structured project management methodologies to control cost, schedule, and scope.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and implement practical, timely solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize information and identify relationships across technical and operational domains.
  • Experience managing integrated project teams in highly regulated or technically complex environments is desirable.
Required Qualifications:
  • Level 2:
    Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Project Management, or related field from an accredited institution and 2 years of experience. Master’s degree and 0 years of experience. PhD and 0 years of experience.
  • Level 3:
    Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Project Management, or related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of experience. Master’s degree and 2 years of experience. PhD and 2 years of experience.
