Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Quality Engineer to work on our Environment, Safety, Health & Quality (ESH&Q) team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.
Position SummaryResponsible for maintaining and monitoring implementation of the overall INL Quality Assurance Program for waste management and assisting the INL Waste Management Program (WMP) in establishing, implementing, and monitoring their quality assurance program plans. Provide quality assurance oversight through performance of independent assessments, surveillance, and program reviews of quality requirements and controls applicable to the WMP. Identifies and resolves compliance issues, enhances safety and operational efficiency, and supports laboratory-wide quality objectives across both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
EssentialJob Functions and Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining, and monitoring implementation of the overall INL Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for the Waste Management Program (WMP) and assisting in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the WMP quality assurance program plans.
- Conduct internal quality program reviews, independent assessments, and surveillances that focus on QAP implementation, process effectiveness, overall data quality objectives, and all aspects of the Waste Certification Programs for the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), the Remote-Handled Low-Level Waste (RHLLW) Disposal Facility, and the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).
- Lead and/or support audits performed by external regulatory agencies (RCRA, EPA, etc.) of the INL WMP and respective Waste Certification Programs (NNSS, WIPP) as the QA SME.
- Provide support to the DOE Consolidated Audit Program (DOECAP) as the point of contact for official correspondence and support audits of contracted commercial treatment storage, and disposal facilities.
- Provide technical expertise, assistance, and advice to program, project, facility management and personnel relative to quality compliance and implementation issues.
- Collaborate with facility and program senior management on significant matters requiring coordination across organizations lines.
- Interface with internal and external customers to determine that quality needs are being met.
- Coach/mentor facility and program personnel through the application of subject matter expertise in the requirements for activities affecting quality.
- Ensure quality program compliance through the review and concurrence of quality affecting documentation.
- Maintain complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, and practices required for delivering quality techniques and tools.
- Maintain required training and proficiency as required by the individual training plan.

- Level 3:
Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or a technical field such as Chemistry, Engineering, Statistics, Operations Management, or a closely related degree and (5) years of related experience or a masters and (2) years related experience or in lieu of a degree 11 years of related experience. - Level 4:
Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or a technical field such as Chemistry, Engineering, Statistics, Operations Management, or a closely related degree and (9) years of related experience or a masters and (6) years related experience or in lieu of a degree 15 years of related experience. - Qualify for and maintain Lead Auditor Qualification.
- Qualify for and maintain INL Quality Engineer Qualification.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
- Experience ensuring adherence to federal, state, and DOE regulatory requirements governing environmental protection and/or waste management activities.
- Experience in waste generation, characterization, and disposal.
