Salary Grade 15: $77,635 – $120,755 (Min $77,635, Mid $99,195, Max $120,755)

Salary Grade 18: $111,520 – $174,365 (Min $111,520, Mid $142,945, Max $174,365)

Position Purpose

The Idaho Nuclear Technology and Engineering Center (INTEC) supports DOE EM mission focusing on safe legacy material management and long‑term disposition. System Engineering oversees calcine disposition tasks, upholds design requirements, nuclear safety standards, and delivers engineering support for ongoing operations. This role develops, evaluates, and compares viable concepts for effective long‑term management of calcine waste, ensuring technical feasibility, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and lifecycle performance.

Responsibilities
  • Translate high‑level mission needs into rigorous, specific engineering and functional requirements.
  • Maintain control of the technical baseline, manage complex physical/functional interfaces between subsystems, and coordinate multi‑disciplinary design reviews.
  • Compile complex technical data for stakeholder decision makers (Proposal Package Assembly).
  • Identify, analyze, and track technical and operational risks to prevent cost overruns and schedule delays (Risk Management).
  • Ensure constructed facility or equipment strictly conforms to approved design requirements and safety standards (Verification & Validation).
  • Prepare plans for checking out, testing, and commissioning equipment for safe turnover to operations and maintenance staff (Commissioning & Turnover).
  • Assist with work order planning and support for preventative and emergent maintenance and operational tasks (Maintenance & Operations Support).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Required bachelor’s degree in engineering (nuclear, mechanical, chemical, or electrical) or science.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of relevant experience; nuclear facility experience desirable.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree.
Legal and Employment Conditions

U.S. citizenship is required. Real ‑compliant driver’s license or an equivalent state photo  required to access all INL facilities. All applicable federal background checks and chemical screening will be performed.
