Job Description

Join a mission-driven team at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho where your expertise helps safeguard those who support a nationally significant program. As an Industrial Hygienist, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment across radiological, environmental, and industrial operations.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead a wide range of radiological, environmental, safety, and health initiatives that uphold company standards and satisfy state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Drive the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of essential safety programs, systems, and procedures.
  • Perform trend analyses, audits, accident investigations, and in-depth inspections of operations, equipment, materials, and facility design.
  • Recommend enhancements to processes, equipment, and work practices to minimize hazards and strengthen risk controls.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive tracking and record?keeping systems that monitor and evaluate occupational injury and illness trends.
  • Deliver engaging employee training programs and support emergency preparedness and quality assurance activities.
  • Provide expert regulatory interpretation and technical guidance to teams across the facility.
  • Stay current with evolving federal and state requirements to ensure the facility remains compliant and ahead of emerging standards.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience;

or Currently an Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Additional Required Skills
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Occupational Safety and Health or Industrial Hygiene
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations (1910 and 1926) and interpretation of the regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to review data sets for injury/illness and deficiency tracking systems
  • Ability to identify and communicate safety and health trends
  • Ability to create an environment where all colleagues feel heard and valued; consistently models professional respect and equitable treatment

Pay Range

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities:
Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth

A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
