Environmental, Safety and Health Director

What You'll Do
  • Lead Environmental and Regulatory Compliance, Industrial Safety, Emergency Management, and Radiological Controls personnel and programs supporting CTR, Aalo-0, Aalo-X, construction, testing, and operations.
  • Assess and establish the necessary staff and programs to ensure environmental controls and safe work execution and compliance with Federal and State requirements at the Austin TX manufacturing centers.
  • Establish clear ES&H requirements, roles, interfaces, performance standards, and field-implementation expectations.
  • Ensure hazards are identified, analyzed, and controlled through integrated work planning, permits, procedures, pre-job briefs, field observations, and stop-work authority.
  • Maintain environmental permits, monitoring, reporting, waste-management interfaces, and regulatory commitments applicable to Idaho Falls activities.
  • Ensure radiation-protection programs, radiological work controls, surveys, dosimetry, ALARA planning, postings, instrumentation, and records support safe authorized work.
  • Maintain emergency plans, procedures, drills, communications, response interfaces, and readiness, including coordination with MFC response organizations where applicable.
  • Provide timely review and practical resolution of construction, commissioning, testing, maintenance, and operating issues without weakening required controls.
  • Enter ES&H deficiencies into the corrective action program, establish ownership and due dates, evaluate extent of condition, and verify effective closure.
  • Track leading and lagging performance indicators and conduct field assessments to identify weak signals before events occur.
  • Communicate significant risks, noncompliance, and unresolved disagreements directly to the SVP, Nuclear Operations and appropriate facility authority.
  • Qualifications
    • 10 or more years of progressively responsible ES&H experience in nuclear, chemical, energy, industrial construction, or another high-hazard operating environment.
    • Five or more years leading multiple ES&H disciplines or a comparably broad department at the manager or director level.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial safety, environmental compliance, emergency management, and radiation-protection interfaces for nuclear construction and operations.
    • Experience implementing DOE or NRC-regulated safety programs, integrated safety management, corrective action, assessment, and readiness processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to translate regulatory and technical requirements into executable field controls and to exercise independent stop-work authority.
    • Experience working with DOE, state and federal regulators, national laboratories, emergency-response organizations, and independent oversight preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental science, health physics, engineering, physical science, or a related field preferred; exceptional directly applicable experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
    • Professional certification such as CSP, CHP, CIH, or equivalent is preferred.
    • Based in the United States
    • Willing to work on-site in Idaho Falls,
    • Travel to Austin, TX facilities as needed
    • Able to work in construction, industrial, radiological, and sodium-system environments and wear required PPE
    • Available for emergency response, critical work, and emergent facility support
