Position

Purpose:

Qualify as a fire protection technician and serve in that capacity until required qualifications are met for Fire Protection Engineer. As a Fire Protection Technician, conduct fire protection inspections, develop hot work permits, issue fire impairments, and work under the direction of a fire protection engineer. A Fire Protection Engineer's (FPE) purpose is to ensure comprehensive implementation and maintenance of the Fire Protection Program in accordance with PRD-199, “Idaho Cleanup Project Fire Protection Program.”

The FPE ensures compliance with applicable fire protection requirements and establishes a level of fire protection sufficient to achieve the programmatic goals identified in DOE Order 420.1C, “Facility Safety.” The FPE provides Fire Protection Program professional expertise and direction to all of WM-INTEC. Ensures all aspects of the IEC Fire Protection Program are implemented and maintained in compliance with the requirements of ICP Manual 14A.

Apply fire protection expertise to the highly complex issues associated with WM-INTEC. Provide consultation and professional leadership to the project management team and the safety and health professionals on all WM-INTEC fire protection issues. Responsible for providing professional leadership and oversight for the day-to-day fire protection program. Identifies, interprets, and assists management in the implementation of fire protection functional requirements.

This includes, but is not limited to, participating in the initial task and/or project development activities (as appropriate), as well as review of drawings, plans, and physical walk‑downs of facilities. Maintaining fire protection documents for all WM-INTEC facilities via FHA/HAD/or AFA. Interface with nuclear safety engineers to assist with SAR/DSA accident scenarios. The FPE will evaluate the effectiveness of functional requirements and their implementation at the specific facilities.

The FPE provides feedback to management and facility managers to ensure implementation of the requirements meets the expectations of pertinent regulations and contractual obligations. The FPE will apply and directly contribute to the development of new concepts and techniques, as well as develop solutions to complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. The FPE will provide leadership and work direction to co‑workers, and their actions would contribute to achieving significant organizational business objectives.

The FPE may train junior level personnel including Fire Protection Technicians in technical complexities of assigned work. The FPE supports Company goals for operational excellence, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS).

Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education/Experience):

This is a multi-level posting and the successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills. Fire Protection Technician:
Meet the qualification for fire protection technician (QCFPTS
01 ICP Fire Protection Technician) and work under the mentorship of a Fire Protection Engineer.

Fire Protection Engineer:
Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering field and a minimum of 4 years of engineering practice with at least one year in responsible charge of fire protection engineering work. Meet the qualifications for fire protection Engineer as outlined in ICP STD-1105, Fire Protection Qualification

Salary Grade 15:
Bachelor’s Degree plus 2 years directly relevant experience

Salary Grade 18:
Bachelor’s Degree plus 12 years directly relevant experience
