Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Industrial Safety Professional to work on our ATR Safety and Health team. Our team works a 4x
10 schedule located out of our ATR facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every Friday off

In this role you will provide industrial safety leadership and technical expertise to support Idaho National Laboratory's mission by developing, implementing, and continuously improving safety programs that protect workers, facilities, and research operations.

Partner with laboratory leadership, project teams, and customers to identify, evaluate, and mitigate workplace hazards while ensuring compliance with the Department of Energy (DOE) Worker Safety and Health Program (10 CFR 851), OSHA regulations, and applicable consensus standards.

Integrate safety into research, laboratory, industrial, construction, and operational activities through proactive risk management, hazard analysis, technical consultation, and continuous improvement, enabling world-class science, engineering, and national security missions to be performed safely and efficiently.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a safety professional on assigned projects or tasks, providing technical support and innovative solutions that support the assigned organization's mission and goals by applying knowledge of safety practices, engineering principles, materials, processes, applicable regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to line management, including assistance with complex safety issues. Maintain applicable safety programs and policy requirements and communicate those requirements as they apply to planned or existing facilities, programs, activities, and structures. Provide input to facility- and project-specific safety and operational goals and initiatives. Promote established goals and provide feedback to line management regarding progress and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide safety support and peer review across laboratory teams, projects, and external organizations by applying knowledge of safety principles, general engineering principles, industrial materials and processes, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct periodic field assessments, including area and job walkdowns, to evaluate implementation of company safety programs and policies. Prepare assessment plans and evaluation criteria and coordinate participation with other safety disciplines and team members as necessary. Communicate identified issues and concerns to the appropriate management teams. Collaborate with management to determine appropriate solutions, develop corrective actions as assigned, and enter and manage issues and findings in the company issues management system.

    Follow up with management regarding implementation of corrective actions. Interface with customers during assessments they conduct.
  • Provide technical support to work organizations in interpreting and implementing assigned safety programs.
  • Evaluate organizational risks and prioritize goals and objectives to ensure the effectiveness of the management assessment program.
  • Serve on hazard evaluation teams to identify, analyze, and control workplace hazards. Review work control documents and site plans to ensure appropriate hazard identification and mitigation.
