Position

Summary

The Acceptable Knowledge Expert supports the Acceptable Knowledge Organization within the Contact-Handled Transuranic Programs Department at the Idaho Cleanup Project. This position extracts, analyzes,validates, and summarizes Process Knowledge and Acceptable Knowledge information from production, historical, and document databases to support investigations, issue resolution, document development, waste characterization, and treatment decisions.

The role works collaboratively with internal teams, external Department of Energy organizations, the Carlsbad Field Office, and DOE Idaho personnel. The successful candidate must be capable of qualifying as a Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Acceptable Knowledge Expert and will evaluate and document historical information from multiple waste generators and generation processes at Idaho National Laboratory and from off-site generators that transferred transuranic waste to the site.

Responsibilities
  • Run and create Structured Query Language scripts to extract required information from production, historical, and document databases.
  • Clean, format, manage, and analyze data for department use using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and other approved data tools.
  • Create clear, concise, and technicallyaccuratedocumentation and respond to department request sin a timely manner.
  • Collect, summarize, and document information concerning waste-generating facilities, processes, physical and chemical characteristics, and applicable regulatory requirements for transuranic waste.
  • Enter information from historical records into tracking databases andmaintainaccurate, traceable data records.
  • Evaluate container information to qualify containers for specific treatment processes, waste streams, and related program requirements.
  • Interpret and apply the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Waste Acceptance Criteria, Waste Analysis Plan, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act requirements, Toxic Substances Control Act requirements, and other requirements applicable to Contact-Handled transuranic waste management.
  • Initiate Nonconformance Reports when necessary and support resolution of other Acceptable Knowledge issues.
  • Support the annual Waste Isolation Pilot Plant audit andassistwith report preparation, information collection, and audit responses.
  • Interface with internal Idaho Environmental Coalition organizations, including Document Services and Information Technology, to coordinate data and document needs.
  • Coordinate with external organizations, including other Department of Energy entities, tofacilitateincoming waste shipments.
  • Interact with Carlsbad Field Office and DOE Idaho personnel regarding

    Contact-Handled transuranic waste, as required.
  • Assist with the training, mentoring, andqualificationof other Acceptable Knowledge Experts.
  • Complete assignments efficiently, accurately, and within established schedules.
