The Food Service Liaison is a customer relations specialist responsible for educating patients about their menus, assisting with meal ordering, and delivering meals to the bedside. The liaison serves as the face of the Nutritional Services Department at Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH) and Mountain View Hospital (MVH), ensuring coffee stations and nutrition stations remain stocked.

• Orient and prepare patients for meal service
• Deliver menus to patients
  • After a diet order is placed in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), hand‑deliver the correct menu to the patient
  • Orient the patient to the menu
    • Show the various menu sections—Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Beverage, Dessert, and Condiments
    • Explain orally how to order meals through room service ordering
    • Ask if the patient has additional questions
• Assist patients with ordering meals if needed
  • If a patient has not ordered by the designated time, visit with a tablet to take the order in person
• Use the iPad language translator to communicate with non‑English‑speaking patients as required
• Deliver meal trays to patients
• Deliver trays within a timely manner, following department policy, using patient identification procedures, and recording delivery times
• Provide personalized assistance with trays (e.g., opening beverages, adding ice, cutting food)
• Maintain a constant rotation of used dish carts and keep carts clean to supply the kitchen with dishes, bases, and silverware
• Stock floor nutrition stations, waiting areas, and doctors’ lounges each day, rotating food FIFO, and remove expired products daily
• Replenish coffee stations promptly first thing in the morning and throughout the day as needed
• Prepare initial stocking lists and submit paperwork to the Patient Nutrition Coordinator; process stocks in the DFM program on an electronic tablet, billing the correct departments
• Participate in continuing education, training, and maintenance of Food Handlers’ Permits
• Maintain current Food Handlers’ Permit
• Complete yearly competency in tray passing
• Maintain competency in using the iPad language translator
• Complete the standard Idaho Falls Community Hospital, Nutritional Services, and position‑specific Health Stream educations promptly
• Participate in intra‑ and inter‑departmental meetings
• Participate in a short daily huddle under the direction of the Patient Nutrition Coordinator and/or Nutritional Services Manager to review important daily information
• Attend the regularly scheduled Nutritional Services staff meetings
  • Meetings are mandatory and count as absences unless excused for vacation or illness/leave
  • If a meeting is missed, review the notes and seek clarification on any unclear information
• Attend additional meetings as needed

• Education/Certification: High school graduate (or equivalent);
  Food Handler’s Permit required within 90 days of employment
• Experience: No previous experience required – the right candidate will be trained for necessary skills
