Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Intellectual Property Licensing Specialist to support our Technology Deployment team with managing, protecting, and licensing INL’s intellectual property. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our EROB facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off.

This is a 1‑year Project Hire position. Working under the direction of the Director of Technology Deployment, you will support licensing operations, maintain accurate IP records, assist with invention and software licensing workflows, and coordinate closely with technical staff, commercialization managers, and legal experts. This position is well‑suited for candidates building a career in technology licensing, IP portfolio management, or technology transfer.

Job Functions And Responsibilities
  • Support the management of INL’s intellectual property portfolio, including software licenses, copyright agreements, open‑source licenses, and income‑sharing agreements.
  • Process routine, non‑negotiable licensing actions (e.g., non‑exclusive software licenses) in accordance with Technology Deployment procedures.
  • Assist with licensing committees and decision processes by preparing documentation, tracking milestones, and maintaining accurate program records.
  • Maintain and update the IP Manager system; respond to internal and DOE information requests related to licensing and reporting.
  • Coordinate with researchers, commercialization managers, and legal personnel on innovation intake, IP disclosures, licensing activities, and technology transfer workflows.
  • Support the use and upkeep of Technology Deployment’s IP software tools, including systems for innovation intake and disclosure tracking.
  • Apply established IP licensing standards and principles to evaluate issues and help resolve routine licensing questions.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal partners and external collaborators to support INL’s broader technology deployment mission.
  • Seek guidance from senior licensing specialists and legal subject‑matter experts on matters requiring additional expertise.
Required
  • Level 1:
    Bachelor’s degree in business or another related field from an accredited institution and 0 years of experience.
  • Relevant experience determined with level.
  • Level 2:
    Bachelor’s degree in business or another related field from an accredited institution and 2 years of experience OR Master’s and 0 years of experience OR PhD and 0 years’ experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) L‑clearance.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Job Information

The pay range for this position is:
Level 1 ($47,424 - $92,568) / Level 2 ($57,444 - $112,068). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
