Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is looking for motivated individuals interested in a position as a Laborer or Custodian. We are hiring from multiple facilities, including Idaho Falls REC (in‑town), Central Facilities Area (CFA), Advanced Test Reactor (ATR), and Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC). Please indicate in the application process the locations you want to work and the type of employment you prefer.
Positions will be filled over the next three months as they become available.
- Intensive activities such as general labor work, lawn care, and assisting the skilled craft both Sitewide and REC complexes.
- Load, unload, move and stack material such as boxes and bulky items by hand, hand trucks, or dollies.
- Operate hand tools and power equipment such as lawnmowers, zero‑radius power mowers, edgers, leaf blowers, and weed trimmers to mow lawns, clear small trees and bushes.
- Operate small tractors, snowplows/blades, snow blowers, and power brooms for snow removal.
- Perform a variety of manual tasks such as moving, arranging, collecting, and cleaning equipment and materials.
- Use safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe, clean work environment.
- Perform physical manual labor, heavy lifting, work in heat/cold environments, work in respiratory protection environments, work in confined spaces, work at elevations, or operate heavy industrial equipment or tools.
- Perform cleaning tasks including mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and cleaning windows, walls, doors, restrooms, and other similar tasks.
- Operate equipment such as power buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, carpet cleaners, and high‑speed burnishers.
- Move furniture, equipment, and materials.
- Perform seasonal outdoor yard work, including cutting grass, shoveling, sweeping, and hosing sidewalks and roadways; clean ditches, fence lines, and ground of weeds and debris.
- Perform snow removal operations.
- Perform decontamination work.
- Operate motorized vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans, and motorized lawn equipment.
- Move furniture for a full shift at a time and perform similar strenuous activities over extended periods.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices by keeping work areas clean and organized.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current and valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Full‑time Custodian: $22.84 per hour (rate varies by location, clearance, and qualifications).
- Full‑time Laborer: $26.60 per hour (rate varies by location, clearance, and qualifications).
- TDP:
This is a testing‑designated position; requires pre‑employment drug screening and periodic drug testing during employment.
- Stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials or manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms; operate a motor vehicle or job‑related equipment; climb ladders and/or work in confined spaces.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Sufficient visual acuity, speaking ability, and hearing capacity to perform essential functions and interact with the public.
