SummaryThe Firewall Engineer will implement IPv4/IPv6 dual stack on Palo Alto firewalls across the Idaho Cleanup Project environment, developing IPv6 rulesets in Palo Alto Panorama and deploying them to firewalls based on rulesets currently in place for IPv4 assets. This role builds and deploys firewall rules, configures IPv6 interfaces on firewall devices, and validates and troubleshoots firewall traffic to ensure secure, reliable network operations.
Position OverviewThis position supports Information Technology network security operations at the Idaho Cleanup Project, working within the firewall engineering team to extend IPv6 capability across the Palo Alto firewall environment while maintaining existing IPv4 protections. The role is essential to ensuring secure, well-documented, and validated firewall rule deployments across the environment.
Responsibilities- Build and deploy firewall rules across the Palo Alto firewall environment (approximately 70% of time).
- Build and configure IPv6 interfaces on firewall devices (approximately 10% of time).
- Validate and troubleshoot firewall traffic to confirm rules and rulesets perform as intended (approximately 20% of time).
- Develop IPv6 rulesets in Palo Alto Panorama based on existing IPv4 rulesets and deploy them to firewalls throughout the environment.
- Implement IPv4/IPv6 dual stack configurations on Palo Alto firewalls.
- Comply with all relevant health, safety, quality, and security requirements, including reporting unsafe work conditions and supporting Integrated Safety Management System core functions.
- Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience with IPv4 and IPv6 networking and addressing.
- Hands‑on experience with Palo Alto firewalls and Palo Alto Panorama for rule and ruleset management.
- Experience building, deploying, validating, and troubleshooting firewall rules and traffic in an enterprise environment.
- Ability to work Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM Mountain Time, onsite at the assigned work location.
- Familiarity with relevant health, safety, quality, and security requirements applicable to onsite DOE facility work.
- Must be a U.S. citizen; this position requires control of sensitive unclassified information and is not accessible to foreign nationals.
- Successful completion of a preliminary background check is required prior to award/start.
- No license or certification is required for this position.
