POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing company vehicles, trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, machinery, and other company-owned equipment to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and operational.

This is a hands‑on position requiring strong mechanical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently. The Mechanic will perform diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, field repairs, and emergency repairs as needed.

The Mechanic works closely with the Facilities Manager and General Manager to coordinate repair priorities, preventative maintenance schedules, parts, Repair Orders, outside repairs, and equipment needs. Accurate documentation, responsible parts management, cost awareness, and timely communication are essential components of this position.

Some repairs may require field service, emergency response, overtime, weekend work, or occasional work outside normal shop hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Mechanical Repairs & Preventative Maintenance
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and equipment-related issues as applicable.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on company vehicles, trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, machinery, and other company-owned equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and determine appropriate repair solutions.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify maintenance or repair needs before they result in significant downtime, safety concerns, or equipment failure.
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance accurately and within established timelines.
  • Verify completed repairs are performed correctly and equipment is safe to return to service.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and functional shop and work area.
  • Follow established company procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and shop safety requirements.
  • Properly use and maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, shop equipment, and company property.
  • Perform field repairs when equipment cannot reasonably be brought into the shop.
  • Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns as operational needs require.
  • Be available for occasional on‑call repairs outside normal shop hours when necessary.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Manager to ensure a Repair Order (RO) is created for each YB repair or outside customer repair.
  • Ensure labor, parts, receipts, and other required documentation are accurately associated with the appropriate Repair Order.
  • Accurately document work performed, repairs completed, parts used, and additional repair or maintenance needs identified.
  • Submit receipts and documentation for parts, repairs, and work orders to the office or Facilities Manager accurately and on time.
  • Communicate with the Facilities Manager regarding parts needed or ordered for specific Repair Orders.
  • Immediately notify the Facilities Manager of parts that were ordered but not used so they can be returned promptly and unnecessary costs can be avoided.
  • Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist with parts procurement and ensure parts are ordered appropriately based on repair requirements.
  • Communicate anticipated repair timelines, delays, additional repair needs, or parts availability issues to the Facilities Manager.
Cost Control & Outside Repairs
  • Assist in estimating labor, parts, and other costs associated with outside customer repair work when requested.
  • Provide information to management to assist in determining whether repairs should be completed internally or outsourced based on cost, complexity, availability, and operational needs.
  • Follow established company pricing and markup requirements for outside repair work.
  • Obtain General Manager approval before providing any discount that exceeds the standard markup established in company software.
  • Use company resources, parts, supplies, and equipment responsibly.
