Position Overview

This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt roller machine.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently by following patterns to smooth material from paver to proper depths.
  • Thorough understanding of preparatory work required, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
  • Responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment.
  • Expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
  • Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings.
  • Review safety and risk assessment, daily production goals and crew member responsibilities.
  • Identify, locate, mark and communicate overhead hazard with others on the crew and truck drivers.
  • Locate, identify and mark project specific hazards.
  • Have understanding of procedures in the event of an incident.
  • Conduct documented task training prior to equipment use.
  • Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various locations.
  • May assist Laborer at various job sites as needed.

  • Education/

    Experience:

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
  • Work Requirements:
    Previous heavy equipment operation experience or training is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge/Skill Requirements:
    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    Valid Driver's License is preferred.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
