Job Description:
This position will primarily perform a variety of journey-level skilled duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical power generation systems and control equipment. To include lighting systems, electronic hardware/software controls, communications hardware/software, and to assist with substation control systems. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Electrician Foreman or Substation Foreman depending upon project and tasks being performed.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED May provide close to immediate supervision and training to Apprentices(s) if appropriate.
Essential Functions:
Exercises consistent positive collaboration and accountability by working as a valuable member of the Idaho Falls Power and Fiber team to safely accomplish the goals and required tasks of the utility. Performs installation, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, repair, and calibration of a wide variety of electrical equipment and instrumentation associated with power generation systems/equipment such as generators, excitation systems, motors and controllers, circuit breakers, power turbines, DC control circuitry and battery systems and other related equipment, or control systems Proficient in testing, programming and repair of (SEL) protective relaying and control devices associated with electrical generation and substation control systems.
Performs programming, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of PLC controls for governor, gate, annunciation, SCADA (RTAC) systems, and analog/digital input/output transducers that are utilized by these different control systems; assist with installment of supervisory equipment and performs final adjustments to ensure smooth operation. Perform installation, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, repair, and calibration of substation control equipment such as transformers, high voltage circuit breakers, load tap changers, DC control circuitry and battery systems and other related equipment.
Utilize "lock out" and "tag out" system and clearance procedure to ensure quality/safety of operations and completion of projects. Follow all safety policies and procedures during performance of all work. Monitors work activities and creates documents to maintain records of maintenance and repair work performed as required by Idaho Falls Power policies and procedures; monitors project material usage and makes recommendations for replacement purchases for inventory management.
Utilize technical electrical test equipment for analysis, testing, and calibration of various equipment such as transformers, load tap changers, generators and excitation systems etc. Follow utility industry best practices, all safety procedures and other related utility policies. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A. Graduation from high school; plus, Completion of (4) four years in the Idaho electrical apprentice program with current Journeyman electrician status; AND
B. Four (4) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of substation control systems and equipment.; OR
C. Four (4) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of power generation systems and equipment. OR
D. An equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of hazards associated with electronic and high voltage equipment and devices; precautions necessary to insure safety of employees and equipment; practices and procedures related to installation, maintenance and repair of high voltage generation, substation and signalization equipment; equipment and tools required to effectively perform duties; terminology and nomenclature of the electrical field; operation of heavy duty power equipment;
