Assistant Feedmill Manager
Reports to: Feedmill Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt (Salaried)
About the RoleWe’re looking for a hands‑on, safety‑minded Assistant Feedmill Manager to help lead the daily operation, maintenance, and staffing of our feed mill. This role partners closely with the Feedmill Manager to keep production running smoothly, maintain top‑quality feed rations, and develop a strong, safe, well‑trained team. If you enjoy variety, problem‑solving, and working both on the floor and behind the scenes, we’d love to hear from you.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Help manage non‑supervisory staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, performance reviews, recognition, and addressing concerns or disciplinary issues in line with company policy and applicable employment law.
- Reduce mill downtime by overseeing maintenance scheduling and helping build out a preventative maintenance program.
- Monitor incoming commodities through regular inspection and testing to ensure quality control.
- Help maintain finished feed ration quality by sourcing quality ingredients and following guidance from our consulting Nutritionist; may assist with commodity purchasing.
- Step in to cover shifts or tasks when staffing needs arise.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, FDA, and EPA regulations, including accurate recordkeeping.
- Champion a culture of safety — model safe practices, lead regular safety training, and monitor the workplace for unsafe or non‑compliant conditions.
- Support development of department capital and operating budgets; track and manage expenses using historical data and cost research.
- Manage department supply inventory, including forecasting needs, evaluating costs, and approving orders.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Ability to read and apply technical material such as safety rules, operating/maintenance manuals, and procedures.
- Comfort working with practical math (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions).
- Ability to follow instructions delivered in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
Strong candidates will be able to coordinate cross‑functional projects, navigate difficult or sensitive employee situations with discretion, contribute meaningfully in meetings, understand the business impact of operational decisions, manage within an approved budget, identify and implement cost‑saving measures, demonstrate sound and consistent judgment, and uphold our commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO). Safety awareness is essential — this includes following all safety and security procedures and promptly reporting potentially unsafe conditions.
