Job Responsibilities- Meet all state and local code compliance and reporting requirements.
- Apply knowledge of building codes, policies, and procedures to day‑to‑day functions of the building department.
- Serve as primary liaison with clients, ensuring the highest level of customer service.
- Attend department and community meetings as required.
- Perform plan reviews for commercial and residential projects in all trades.
- Provide inspection support as needed.
- Supervise building department staff.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of local building code regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Client and team management experience in a building department setting.
- Solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exercise initiative and independent judgment.
- Self‑directed and self‑motivated.
- ICC Building Official Certification required.
- ICC Residential and Commercial Building Inspector Certifications required.
- ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification preferred.
- ICC Building Code Specialist Certification preferred.
- ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certification preferred.
- Inspection and plan review experience for commercial and residential structures required.
- Experience supervising building department staff required.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling for inspections.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated areas.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans and observe details.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and defects visually and auditorily.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate in noisy environments.
- Use of hands and fingers for tools, inspection equipment, computers, and tablets.
- Work performed in both office and field settings.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction site environments.
- Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations.
