Teton Valley Health is seeking a Broad-Spectrum Rural Family Physician (without OB) to join our physician team in Driggs, Idaho. This position offers the opportunity to practice rural medicine in a collaborative critical access hospital while serving a close-knit mountain community. Physicians in this role care for patients in both inpatient and outpatient clinic settings, without obstetric or emergency room responsibilities.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position follows a mixed rural practice model
, supporting both hospital and clinic services. In the current staffing structure, physicians provide 7 days of hospital coverage followed by 7 days off
, ensuring consistent inpatient care and availability to support other service lines. During times of lower inpatient census, physicians may offer limited same-day acute care clinic appointments
, helping expand access for community members while maintaining hospital coverage as the top priority.

As the physician team grows, the practice will transition to a traditional rural mixed model with approximately three weeks of outpatient clinic and one week of hospital coverage
. This structure supports continuity of care while maintaining strong inpatient coverage for the hospital.

CLINICAL OVERVIEW

Physicians in this role practice full-spectrum family medicine
, including:

  • Comprehensive outpatient primary care for adults and children
  • Preventive care and chronic disease management
  • Same-day acute care visits when hospital coverage allows
  • Inpatient rounding and hospital admissions
  • Collaboration with emergency, surgical, and specialty services

Hospital follow-up care and care coordination

Opportunities may exist to incorporate additional services based on physician training and interest, such as women’s health, procedural care, etc.

Summary ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand and/or walk 60% of the time
  • Ability to assist in lifting patients over 100lbs occasionally and frequently lifting equipment and other items up to 25lbs
  • Ability to frequently stoop, crouch and/or reach below, at, or above shoulder level for short periods of time
  • Manual dexterity, ability to concentrate, and good eye-hand coordination required
  • Vision requiring near and far acuity, depth perception, and an ability to adjust focus and maintain a good field of vision is required for patient assessment, observation, treatment and documentation
  • Mental, Physical, and emotional abilities to respond to emergency situations
  • Written and spoken communication skills require the ability to speak, hear and see
  • Critical thinking and good judgment needed to be able to follow Federal, State and hospital policies and procedures
