This position is anticipated to be Dual Language Immersion Spanish Teacher at Teton High School, subject to the needs of the district.
Job Title:
High School Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Spanish Teacher
Position Overview:
The high school dual language immersion (DLI) Spanish teacher will support the expansion of TSD
401's dual language immersion program at the secondary level. This position requires teaching advanced Spanish language courses, such as Dual Enrollment Spanish courses, and may also include teaching a core academic subject in Spanish (e.g., physical sciences, math or history), depending on the candidate's qualifications.
Qualifications:
- Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements.
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Secondary Education, Bilingual Education, Math or Science related field.
- Master's degree or ability to qualify to teach dual credit courses (in accordance with Idaho university partner guidelines).
- Minimum Oral Spanish Proficiency at the Advanced Mid-level in the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI); or demonstrate native Spanish proficiency.
- Experience teaching Spanish at the secondary level.
- Understanding of Utah DLI strategies, and pedagogy and experience with students from dual language programs (preferred).
- TESOL or Bilingual/ESL endorsement.
- Foreign degrees are certified and evaluated by WES demonstrating equivalent to a U.S. degree.
- Ability to teach or co-teach academic content in Spanish (e.g., science, history) preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
School Principal & Multilingual Programs Director
Responsibilities:
- Teach upper-level Spanish courses including AP and/or dual enrollment Spanish language classes (SPAN 101, 102, 201, 202, 301, 302).
- Prepare students for success in college-level coursework and Spanish language proficiency assessments.
- Collaborate with university partners to align course objectives and maintain eligibility for dual enrollment credit.
- Serve as a mentor and language model for students pursuing bilingualism and biliteracy.
- Support the academic success of DLI and heritage Spanish students.
- Potentially teach a content-area course in Spanish (math, physical science, history), depending on certification.
- Communicate regularly with students and families in both English and Spanish.
- Work collaboratively with the Multilingual Programs Director and K-8 DLI teachers to expand the district's dual language program.
- Familiarity with Utah's Bridge Program or similar concurrent enrollment models.
- Experience using project-based learning and culturally responsive practices.
- Knowledge of AVANT Stamp, and Spanish language development standards.
- Strong classroom management and technology integration skills.
- Contract period of 1425 hours for teachers, unless determined otherwise by the school board.
- Participation in professional development, including DLI Summer Institute, and start-of-year professional development.
To be conducted by the district administrator in accordance with the guidelines specified in the evaluation policy.
