Extracurricular Coach/Advisor

Reports To:

Athletic Director/Principal

Qualifications:

Idaho teaching certificate or 15 hours of IHSAA sanctioned coaches training. (Varsity Coaches) Knowledge of fundamental skills and strategies for extra duty assignments. Experience in extra duty assignment, either coaching or advising, or as a participant. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Presents a positive attitude through appearance, personal habits and punctuality.
  • Communicates and works cooperatively with other members of the staff and with the public.
  • Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner and motivates them without undue pressure.
  • Teaches all students the skills, techniques, physical conditioning, strategies, and safety of the sport or activity.
  • Monitors student grades and eligibility per the student handbook.
  • Instills respect and sportsmanship for opponents and adults in all settings.
  • Demands observance of all state and city laws, school rules, district rules, and league rules.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic first aid procedures and keeps an adequate supply of first aid supplies available.
  • Abides by and enforces all district policies, rules, and regulations as set by the administration, the athletic department, and the IHSAA.
  • Attends clinics, workshops, and state association meetings applicable to the assignment.
  • Builds a competitive and well-organized program (may include play and practice in summer months where applicable) demonstrating skill development with students.
  • Scouts other teams during the season.
  • Practice sessions are well organized and fit within reasonable time constraints.
  • Provides flexibility in scheduling practices, games, or activities such as early mornings or early evenings where necessary.
  • Knowledgeable of activity skills and coaching techniques.
  • Supervises and maintains a clean locker room or facility home or away. Puts equipment away and ensures the security of all facilities used.
  • Complies with all deadlines: inventory, rosters, transportation requests, award winners, etc.
  • Maintains accurate records regarding supplies, equipment, and activity inventory, with inspection and review to assure safety and appropriateness of the use of any such supply or equipment item.
  • Works with media in keeping them informed of scores, athlete or student academic achievement, and other timely reports and news.
  • Remains with the students at all times including periods where students are being transported to and from scheduled activities.
  • Provides rules, expectations, and responsibilities to participants and parents prior to the beginning of the activity requirements.

Physical Requirements:

In a 3-5 hour time period, employee may stand/walk 3-4 hours, sit 2-3 hours. Employee may use hands for repetitive single grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. Employee may need to bend and twist frequently; squat, climb and reach above shoulder occasionally. Employee may need to lift approximately 20 pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 10-20 pounds.

Employment Period:
Employed based on terms outlined in a supplemental contract. Terms of Employment:
The Board of Trustees determines wage and benefits. This position shall be considered in all respects "employment at will." Neither the employment nor any other descriptions as to positions, duty, or assignment shall create a property right in the employment and such are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the district so long as the employment continues.

The employee/employment is at all times subject to the rules, regulations, and policies of the district as have been promulgated by the Wilder Board of Trustees and each employee is held responsible for having knowledge of such rules, regulations, and policies.
