Location: Clayton

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer, Mine to join our Thompson Creek team. Reporting to the Superintendent of Mine Engineering, this role oversees all geotechnical functions at the TCM site, including pit slope design and monitoring, structural and rock mass strength assessments, water and ground control, and QA/QC programs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise in pit slope stability, slope angle design, rock mechanics, and structural geology.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and related QA/QC programs.
  • Oversee data collection, monitoring, and interpretation of geotechnical data, including slope monitoring, rock strength parameters, structural geology, hydrogeological data, and tailings storage facility data.
  • Collaborate with mine design, planning, survey teams and corporate engineering to integrate geotechnical criteria into mine plans and operations.
  • Direct and review work of external consultants and contractors, ensuring studies and designs are completed within budget.
  • Develop and implement short‑ and long‑term strategies to improve slope stability programs and lead instrumentation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide timely technical reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use industry‑standard software (e.g., Deswik, Roc Science, Flac3d, Leapfrog) for data analysis and modelling.
  • Uphold and enforce site safety policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support mine operations and corporate objectives.
Qualifications
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer/Geologist in Idaho.
  • Degree in Mining, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering with a minimum of 4 years experience in open‑pit hard rock mining related to rock mechanics and slope stability.
  • Experience managing open‑pit hard‑rock mine geotechnical programs.
  • Experience with tailings storage facility monitoring.
  • Experience with slope stability software.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lead investigations and programs such as drilling, field testing, and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of open‑pit mining and tailings storage facilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship‑building abilities; capacity to work independently and in a team.
  • Knowledgeable in risk assessment processes.
