Applications Engineering, Sr Engineer - Structural Mechanics and AI
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You have spent the last few years learning how simulation tools actually get used in production environments, not just in textbooks, and you have realized that the most interesting problems live at the boundary between what the software can do and what the customer needs it to do. You are curious about how automotive engineers think through structural integrity, and you want to be the person who helps them get there faster.
Working directly with customers energizes you. You do not mind when a question comes in that requires you to dig into documentation, test a workflow yourself, or loop in a colleague who knows more. You ask good follow-up questions because you actually want to understand the problem, not just close the ticket. You are comfortable presenting a solution to a room of engineers or walking someone through a model one-on-one, and you adapt your explanation depending on who is listening.
Scripting does not intimidate you. You have written Python to automate something tedious or customize a workflow, and you see it as a tool, not a credential. If you have played with AI at the physics level or worked with agentic frameworks, even better. At Synopsys, you will work with Ansys simulation technology, support real customer workflows in automotive and beyond, and grow into a technical expert who knows how to solve problems that matter.
WhatYou'll Be Doing
- Support customers using Ansys simulation tools for structural mechanics applications, with a focus on automotive workflows
- Learn customer design processes, diagnose technical challenges, and recommend solutions using Ansys software and best-practice methodologies
- Deliver introductory and intermediate training sessions on Ansys tools, both onsite and remotely, tailored to customer skill levels and use cases
- Collaborate with sales teams during technical campaigns, providing pre-sales demonstrations, proof-of-concept work, and technical guidance that helps close deals
- Test new Ansys product features and functions, provide feedback to development teams, and validate that updates meet real-world customer requirements
- Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing efforts by documenting solutions, building reusable workflows, and participating in cross-discipline engineering discussions
- Travel to customer sites across Germany and occasionally beyond, up to 25-50% of the time, to provide hands-on support and build lasting technical relationships
- Accelerate customer productivity by helping engineers solve complex simulation challenges faster and with more confidence
- Drive adoption of Ansys tools in automotive and industrial workflows, directly contributing to increased software utilization and renewal rates
- Shape product development by channeling real customer feedback and use cases back to engineering teams, influencing roadmap priorities
- Build trust and long-term partnerships with customers, positioning Synopsys as their go-to technical resource for simulation and analysis
- Raise the technical bar across the team by codifying best practices, sharing lessons learned, and mentoring newer engineers as you grow
- Support revenue growth by enabling sales teams with technical credibility, proof points, and customer success stories
- Strengthen Synopsys' reputation in the automotive sector as a company that understands both the technology and the engineering challenges customers face every day
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field;
Master's preferred - 2 to 3 years of professional experience using CAE, CAD, EDA, or PLM tools in engineering or customer-facing roles
- Demonstrated experience with Ansys software or comparable commercial simulation platforms like Abaqus, LS-DYNA, or COMSOL
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- Experience with Python or similar scripting languages for automating workflows, customizing tools, or processing simulation data
- Ability to work onsite in the Munich area at least three days per week and travel up to 25%, with flexibility to go up to 50% as needed
- Experience working with or within the automotive industry is a strong plus, as is familiarity with AI applied to physics problems or agentic AI frameworks
- Learn by doing and are comfortable diving into unfamiliar tools or workflows when a customer question requires it
- Collaboration comes naturally to you, whether that means pairing with a…
