Brooklyn Public Library – Finance Analyst (Grant Accounting)
Location:
Brooklyn, New York | Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 | Full‑time, non‑union, exempt position.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual grant financial reports for private foundations, government agencies and other grantors.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for grant accounting and reporting, partnering with inter‑departmental staff on budget monitoring and financial inquiries.
- Prepare private and government grant revenues and expense reconciliations and monthly revenue recognition journals.
- Monitor grant spending against approved budgets by preparing monthly/quarterly grant income and expenditure reports for discussion with relevant program staff.
- Record monthly miscellaneous income and reconcile branch bank accounts.
- Reconcile all ABC Pharos credit card and cash transactions, including merchant statements, deposits, kiosk activity and cash collection to the general ledger.
- Prepare schedules for the annual financial audit and the IRS Form 990, including accounts payable, accrued expenses, investments and contributed revenues and expenses.
- Report to the AVP of Finance, Controller.
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries in accordance with established accounting policies and month‑end closing deadlines.
- Review development contributions and revenue activity monthly; collaborate with Foundation staff to prepare quarterly reconciliation schedules.
- Prepare development‑related journal entries and perform monthly reconciliation between the general ledger financial system and the Development database (Raisers Edge).
- Maintain monthly investment schedules, prepare related journal entries, reconcile brokerage statements to the general ledger, and compile annual investment summaries.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for operating and payroll accounts and post the monthly cash ledger.
- Maintain an updated schedule of development pledge receivables from private donors.
- Maintain schedules for prepaid insurance and other prepaid expenses, and prepare related monthly entries.
- Prepare, update and reconcile all assigned monthly balance sheet schedules, including payroll and accruals.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including recording additions, retirements and transfers; calculate and post depreciation and amortization; reconcile accumulated depreciation and related expense accounts to the general ledger and maintain fixed asset schedules.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Finance or Accounting.
- Minimum five years of government/fund accounting experience.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting theory, concepts and practices applicable to nonprofit agencies.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills for monitoring accounting records and resolving accounting problems.
- Team spirit, attention to detail, goal orientation, and the ability to follow through on projects from initiation to completion.
- Ability to establish work priorities and apply financial accounting principles and methods to daily tasks.
- Computer literate with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Knowledge of Workday accounting software is a plus.
