Financial Analyst, Accounting & Finance
Established in 1950, the Kimberly Research & Extension Center encompasses 180 acres of irrigated land, four greenhouses, laboratories, a seed processing and storage facility, and a potato storage research complex.
KREC provides research and extension programs that support agriculture for the eight counties of the Magic Valley. Research teams investigate disease management techniques, potato storage practices, plant-insect interactions and biological control, and weed management practices.
Position OverviewResponsible for providing complex technical support for daily financial operations by performing a variety of tasks following policies and procedures. In addition to processing a variety of financial transactions and maintaining records, the position compiles data and generates routine and ad hoc financial reports.
Duties may include:- Purchasing identified goods and services
- Submitting invoices and receipts for payment
- Accepting and recording payments
- Processing travel claims and reimbursements
- Tracking transactions through completion in the centralized financial system
- Filing and maintaining unit-level finance documents
- Originating personnel actions and processing corrections to pay in the centralized financial system
- Developing, compiling, and summarizing data for routine reports and ad hoc financial management reports
- Researching and correcting discrepancies or errors
- Providing assistance to departments on questions related to invoices, receipts, financial reports and other transactions
- Researching, analyzing, and making recommendations for management decision making
- Serving as departmental grant administrator, assisting principal investigator with pre- and post-award financial activities. May participate in budget development and compilation and submission of proposals and project reports
- Three years providing financial processing support within an electronic finance system
- Using spreadsheet software to compile, summarize, analyze and report on financial data
- Interpreting and applying financial stewardship policies, procedures, rules and regulations
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
- Ability to work nonstandard business hours including overtime when necessary, especially at fiscal year-end
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting
- Experience analyzing information, identifying problems, defining alternatives, and developing recommendations for management/administrators
- Familiarity with accounting and financial management principles
- Experience using Excel, Banner, and Argos
- Familiarity with land-grant institutions and the Extension system
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Must be able to lift, carry and/or otherwise move materials weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to work in adverse environmental conditions (dusty, hot, or cold conditions outdoors) to obtain documents from other buildings
