Job Description

Flex Staff is seeking a temporary Spanish speaking MEDICAL ASSISTANT for our client, a non‑profit healthcare organization providing home and community‑based healthcare and services for the elderly.

The Medical Assistant will perform venipuncture and finger blood, including drawing, capping, and labeling of blood specimens, as well as performing EKGs. The position is located in Bronx, NY, with a shift from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Performs direct patient care under the supervision of a physician or appropriate clinician and performs related clerical duties supporting operational needs.

• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, ensuring cleanliness and availability of appropriate equipment and supplies.
• Interview patients to obtain medical information and perform measurement and screening procedures.
• Prepare the patient for examination and treatment.
• Obtain the patient’s height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, head circumference, and other required vital statistics.
• Record findings in the patient medical record and inform the clinician of findings.
• Obtain specimens from the patient, as directed by the clinician.
• Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens; complete requisitions, label, and route specimens according to established procedures.
• Assist the clinician during examination, procedures, and treatment: secure the required supplies, tools, and equipment; ensure the patient is appropriately draped and positioned; provide requested instruments to the clinician; assist in positioning and holding the patient as required; and assist the patient after examination, procedure, or treatment.
• Prepare, sterilize, and calibrate equipment; inform the Supervisor of any malfunctioning equipment.
• Strictly adhere to infection control standards in the performance of duties.
• Perform related clerical duties supporting operational needs such as participating in patient registration, processing insurance forms, certifications, physician orders, prescriptions, ensuring required patient information and documentation is available in medical records, scheduling and confirming patient appointments, placing, receiving, and directing phone calls, and filing, copying, and distributing documentation as required.
• Perform related duties as required.

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Successful completion of a six‑month to one‑year course in Medical Assisting program, required.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), preferred.
• Prior experience and demonstrated competence as a medical assistant, preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
