Job Description

Kahak Health Services is a service provider for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our mission is to foster independence through compassionate support, helping individuals achieve their goals and enhance their quality of life. As an employee of Kahak Health Services, you will join a team of skilled, dedicated professionals who value integrity, respect, and teamwork.

About the role

As a Community-Based Supports DSP, you will help children with developmental disabilities become more independent and integrated in their community. You will provide the supports a child needs to explore their interests, participate in age-appropriate community activities alongside typically developing peers, and practice skills learned in other therapeutic settings. Community-Based Supports must not replace services provided in school or therapy, and must not supplant the role of the primary caregiver.

Duties

and responsibilities
  • Support the child's participation in community activities and events identified on their plan of service
  • Reinforce skills such as communication, socialization, personal care, mobility, relationship-building, and participation in leisure and community activities
  • Assist with activities of daily living and support skill development in natural community settings
  • Provide transportation to approved activities
  • Monitor for safety and maintain a healthy, safe environment for the individual and yourself
  • Follow each child's plan of service and complete required program documentation/progress notes for every visit
Minimum qualifications
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have at least six (6) months of supervised experience working with children with developmental disabilities. This can be met through prior paid employment, a university practicum, or an internship; or through on-the-job supervised experience — a minimum of six hours of job shadowing before delivering services, plus weekly face-to-face supervision for six months while delivering services. (For children birth to age three, this experience must be with infants/toddlers birth to age three who have developmental delays or disabilities.)
  • Complete Department-approved competency coursework for Community-Based Supports
  • Receive instruction in the needs of the participant and demonstrate the ability to provide services according to the plan of service
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Satisfactorily complete an Idaho criminal history and background check through the Idaho Background Check Unit
Also required
  • Reliable vehicle, current driver's license, and current auto insurance
  • Current work authorization / Social Security card
  • Current physical exam
  • Current tuberculosis (TB) test with negative result
  • Resume
