Overview

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all. Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever. Micron is looking for a Lead Principal Immigration Specialist to serve as a strategic expert and trusted advisor for our employment-based immigration programs.

In this high-impact role, you will lead complex global immigration initiatives that enable talent mobility, support permanent residency sponsorship, and ensure regulatory compliance across multiple sites and geographies. You will operate with significant autonomy, provide direction to senior leaders, and influence programs essential to Micron’s long-term workforce strategy. You will collaborate closely with business leaders, HR, Talent Acquisition, and external immigration counsel to build scalable, compliant immigration solutions that strengthen our ability to attract and retain global talent.

Responsibilities
  • Lead Immigration Programs and Serve as Subject Matter Expert – Apply deep expertise in employment-based immigration to manage highly complex and sensitive matters across sites and regions. Independently oversee U.S. sponsorship processes, including PERM and immigrant visa filings, using sound judgment in time-sensitive scenarios. Build and maintain tailored immigration roadmaps for employees—supporting their journey from initial hire through permanent residency. Stay informed of foreign national employee job changes (location, duties, compensation, departures) and proactively assess immigration impacts to maintain compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Provide Strategic Advisory and Partner Across the Business – Advise senior leaders and HR partners on immigration, compliance, and workforce planning issues with long-term business impact. Partner with People Managers, HR Business Partners, and Talent Acquisition to develop compliant immigration strategies that address complex talent needs. Translate technical immigration concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-experts. Manage the immigration mailbox and respond to inquiries with timely, accurate, business-focused support.
  • Manage Vendors and Support Compliance – Lead partnerships with external immigration counsel, setting expectations and holding vendors accountable to service and performance goals. Oversee the collection and review of key documentation (support letters, PERM materials, public access files, compliance postings) to ensure accuracy and audit readiness. Build and maintain scalable processes and controls that support regulatory compliance and internal governance.
  • Drive Program Improvements and Enable Data-Driven Decisions – Lead high-impact, multifaceted projects that strengthen immigration program effectiveness and operational efficiency. Use data, metrics, and market insights to guide decisions, identify risks, and deliver proactive solutions. Develop and deliver training for Talent Acquisition, HR Business Partners, and leaders to enhance consistency and compliance. Participate in strategic discussions to address evolving immigration and regulatory challenges.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience as a subject matter expert in employment-based immigration or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrable ability to solve highly complex problems and manage sensitive issues involving external partners or government agencies.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. employment-based immigration programs, compliance requirements, and permanent residency processes.
  • Ability to operate independently with significant judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives across multiple sites or regions.
  • Experience managing and optimizing relationships with immigration counsel or professional service providers.
  • Strong analytical and program management skills, including the ability to use data to drive improvements and mitigate risk.
