Position: Principal Platform Engineer (GCP)

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee infrastructure developments and maintenance to ensure business requirements can be met.
  • Drive advances in technologies and architectures to increase value delivered by technology and digital capabilities.
  • Recommend and participate in activities related to the design, development, and maintenance of digital capabilities within enterprise architecture.
  • Create and manage project storyboards/viewpoints that articulate project requirements and lead to successful implementation.
  • Elicit complex project requirements through interviews, document analysis, workshops, and workflow analysis.
  • Document complex "as is" and "to be" processes and describe changes required for migration.
  • Explore and develop an understanding of external developments or emerging issues and evaluate their potential impact.
  • Conduct complex feasibility studies and document findings to complete cost-benefit analyses.
  • Support Information Security in detecting, analyzing, and remediating security incidents and vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor and review performance within area of responsibility to identify and resolve noncompliance.
  • Discuss and recommend innovative technical developments to improve infrastructure platform quality.
  • Develop own capabilities through assessments, training, coaching, and professional accreditation.
  • Maintain knowledge of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education.
  • Develop business cases to quantify costs, justify investment, and identify ROI.
  • Plan and implement professional development actions for the team.
  • Provide informal training or coaching to others in the organization.
  • Design systems for fault isolation and resolution to limit and address issues promptly.
  • Design and monitor the quality of system and component tests and respond to user emails to diagnose performance issues.
  • Contribute to the continued improvement of infrastructure automation tooling and processes.
  • Participate in after‑hours support, including on‑call responsibilities.
  • Contribute to Knowledge Base articles and Standard Operating Procedures to document routine tasks and problems.
  • Participate in onboarding and training of new team members.
Qualifications
  • Determine and analyze trends from collected data to assist in compiling decision‑making reports.
  • Understand business context, needs, rules, architecture, organizational structure, culture, and processes.
  • Express user needs in terms of business requirements and identify current capability.
  • Conduct build‑or‑buy analyses and recommend preferred approaches.
  • Develop effective change strategy based on gap analyses and readiness assessment.
  • Conduct gap analysis between current and future states to identify components of the change strategy.
  • Design, execute, and report on system/service tests to ensure applications function as specified.
  • Interpret, contribute to, or lead business case creation with client departments.
  • Create clear and effective reports for various audiences.
  • Review and evaluate recommendations and requirements to develop appropriate plans or actions.
  • Develop and execute architectures, policies, and practices for information lifecycle management.
  • Work directly with Architecture to develop enterprise readiness assessments.
  • Adopt solutions to automate and manage applications and functions within the organization.
  • Manage infrastructure components such as compute, storage, cloud, network, observability, and tooling/automation.
  • Navigate and manage private and public cloud‑based infrastructure (virtual machines, networks, storage, services).
  • Experience with infrastructure automation technologies (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform) and scripting/programming in Bash, Power Shell, or Python.
  • Delegate tasks and communicate resources clearly, defining success criteria or "definition of done".
  • Contribute to quarterly and yearly platform road‑mapping exercises.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling.
  • Experience managing containerized infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker, Cloud Run).
  • Experience designing and deploying cloud platforms.
  • Experience developing enterprise standards for global workloads across private and public cloud providers.
