Overview
Whitetail Club is a private community in McCall, Idaho. We seek an Assistant Superintendent to oversee golf course operations and maintenance. The role ensures an outstanding member and guest experience.
Responsibilities- Manage a diverse grounds maintenance team and foster an inclusive work environment.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent to maintain the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans.
- Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties.
- Plan, organize, and direct the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
- Oversee planting and cultural practices for turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants.
- Ensure construction equipment is properly maintained.
- Assist in procurement of supplies and materials within budgetary limits.
- Maintain records of annual maintenance activities, costs, and prepare required reports.
- Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors.
- Reconcile and code invoices, payroll, and other documents.
- Coordinate snow removal depending on facility location.
- Ensure associates have proper licensure and comply with regulations.
- Supervise department members including Mechanics, Environmental Technicians, Equipment Operators, Foremen, Greenskeepers, and Irrigation Technicians.
- Develop and maintain effective orientation and training programs.
- Monitor business volume and adjust manpower, productivity, and expenses.
- Implement excellent service to achieve guest satisfaction.
- Communicate policy changes to the department.
- Conduct staff meetings.
- Adapt to new tasks as directed.
- Incorporate safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Evaluate equipment; support repair and maintenance.
- Monitor plant health; spot‑check greens, tees, and fairways.
- Plan fertilizer schedules and nutrient evaluations.
- Snow removal of parking lots, walkways, amenities, fire hydrants, and utilities.
- Conduct irrigation audits and plan irrigation and drainage projects for spring.
- Maintain property drainage on the golf course and development.
- Rebuild golf course accessories; organize and store related equipment.
- Order product evaluations.
- Engage in continuous education.
- Provide winter recreation for members.
- Lead special projects.
- Degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field. Preferred certifications (GCSAA, Pesticide Applicator License).
- 2–5 years of golf course maintenance or turf management experience.
- Experience leading and managing teams.
- Strong knowledge of turfgrass types, growth patterns, and course needs.
- Proficiency in pest, disease, and weed management.
- Knowledge of irrigation design, repair, and water conservation.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining maintenance equipment.
- Understanding of landscaping practices and plant care.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial and legal documents.
- Clear communication with team members, senior management, and members.
- Motivation and management of diverse teams; training and efficiency.
- Capacity to resolve unexpected issues and maintain operational efficiency.
- Experience managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Implementation of eco‑friendly practices such as water conservation, IPM, and organic fertilization.
