Position: Baking Soda Packaging Mechanic, Afternoons
Location: Old Fort

Baking Soda Packaging Mechanic – Shift 906-

Mon‑Fri: 3:00pm – 11:30pm. Hourly wage: $35.16 after training sign‑off.

Role Summary

Maintains, times and repairs high‑speed packaging equipment while maximizing production requirements that meet/exceed manufacturing specifications.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Multi‑skilled with strong mechanical aptitude and solid electrical background.
  • Basic proficiency in welding and machining (lathe, mill, drill press, band saw).
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical blueprints.
  • Troubleshoots, adjusts, times and makes all repairs to packaging department equipment – pack lines, palletizer, stretch wrappers and all raw‑material conveying equipment – with minimal downtime.
  • Work with regulated products to meet GFSI and FDA standards.
  • Understand and adhere to all plant food‑safety programs and basic HACCP principles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all packaging equipment.
  • Fabricate stock parts for the packaging equipment as needed.
  • Repair/rebuild motors, brakes, pumps, etc. when necessary.
  • Track electrical problems on all equipment including PLCs.
  • Perform machine change‑overs and set‑up all baking soda packaging lines to ensure vertical startups for increased production.
  • Assist in meeting high quality standards and production quotas in the Packaging Department.
  • Subject to overtime as needed to meet production demands.
  • Work any shift during the week as well as weekends in the Baking Soda Department.
  • Must be self‑starting/can work without direction.
  • Use safe operating procedures and judgment including lock‑out/tag procedures specified by Old Fort Facility.
  • Elevate any conflicts in the production schedule, performance, or quality issues to the appropriate parties.
  • Maintain a clean and safe operating area by following 5S program (sweeping the floor, dumping trash, removing extraneous items).
  • Support other department functions as necessary.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Education , Training & Experience
  • High School Diploma / GED required.
  • Minimum two years mechanical experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Use safe operating procedures and judgment.
  • Follow all facility rules to maintain quality and integrity of both raw materials and finished products.
  • Lift 50 pounds consistently.
