About Thompson Creek MineThe Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.
In operations since 1983, the mineuses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.
Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The OpportunityWe are looking for a Technician, Lab to join our Thompson Creek team. In this role you will be responsible for assisting the safe and efficient laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for such purposes as quality and process control.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform pre-shift work area inspections
- Prepare samples for assay including but not limited to blast hole, core, concentrator slurry, and product lot, mill, mine and metallurgical samples.
- Low grade sample preparation and associated hazard awareness including but not limited respiratory hazards, audiometric hazards, LOT and 480 switch gear.
- General understanding of laboratory information management system and sample entry including weighing and weight validation.
- Practical understanding of chemical hygiene.
- Mill composite sample collection-mill hazard awareness and general plant process flow.
- Disposes of sample rejects, solvents and other waste material.
- May work various shift schedules as required to provide control sample assays.
- Performs spill response procedures
- May be assigned other duties.
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:
- Minimum high school diploma or GED.
- Excellent safety record.
- Ability to work rotating schedules.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment, as well as independently.
- Support zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities and operations.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
