Cardiology Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant – Job Description
Position Summary The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant provides advanced practice nursing care to patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. Working collaboratively with cardiologists and the multidisciplinary care team, the NP/PA is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of cardiac patients in outpatient, inpatient, and/or procedural settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including histories and physical examinations
- Diagnose and manage cardiovascular conditions under applicable scope of practice and clinical guidelines
- Develop, implement, and monitor evidence‑based treatment plans
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and laboratory tests
- Prescribe and manage cardiovascular medications and therapies
- Provide inpatient rounding and cardiovascular consults as assigned
- Assist with and/or perform procedures within scope of practice
- Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, medications, risk‑factor modification, and disease prevention
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the medical record
- Coordinate care with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary services
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and compliance initiatives
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited NP/PA program
- Current Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant certification
- Active state NP/PA license and prescriptive authority
- Cardiology experience preferred; training or strong interest in cardiology considered
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative care team
Work Environment
- May include outpatient cardiology clinics, inpatient units, diagnostic labs, and procedural areas
- Schedule may include weekdays with possible call, evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on practice needs
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout clinical settings
- Manual dexterity to perform examinations and procedures
- Ability to assist with patient mobility as needed
