SMMC is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Medical/Surgical Team in the heart of Idaho's mountain country. T he Medical-Surgical RN provides direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans, and ensures high-quality nursing services for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. This role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and a commitment to patient-centered care.

Duties
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; following facility standards of care set by the State Board of Nursing and other governing agency regulations. Possess knowledge and skills regarding nursing principals and practice.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with hospital policies;
    Make nursing decisions within the scope of licensure.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapy as per physician order.
  • Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and patient progress, reporting changes promptly.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialist, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions and health management.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor patient progress document assessments and adjust care plans accordingly.
  • Assist with post-operative recovery, chronic illness management, and acute care interventions.
  • Respond to emergencies and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams of optimal patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of age groups, ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Organizational skills, with ability to prioritize with accuracy and speed.
  • Attend 75% of nursing staff meetings and other available in-service education that pertain to professional growth and development.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Delegates , and oversees, tasks delegated to nursing assistants, ESTs and Unit Clerks.
Requirements
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Idaho or approved compact state licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
  • Advanced Life Support (ACLS) Certification required up on date of hire.
  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS) certification required within a year of date of hire.
