The RN for our Obstetrics Unit provides compassionate and skilled care to expectant mothers during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period. This role involves monitoring the health of both mother and baby, assisting in the birthing process, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment for families. In the event that the Obstetrics unit does not have active patients, the RN will be assigned a patient load in the Med/Surg unit, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and continuity of care.
Responsibilities- Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and measuring health outcomes against patient care goals.
- Provide comprehensive care to obstetric patients, including laboring mothers, postpartum recovery, and newborns.
- Assist with labor and delivery including fetal monitoring, medication administration, and patient education.
- Monitor maternal and fetal well-being, recognizing and responding to complications.
- Educate patients and families on postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn health.
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective care.
- Assess, plan, and implement nursing care for adult patients with medical and surgical conditions.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and wound care per physician order.
- Respond to emergencies and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient outcomes.
- Document patient care services in patient and department records.
- Mentor and orient new staff, and delegate tasks to nursing assistants and unit clerks.
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing required;
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. - Minimum of one (1) year of previous experience in obstetric nursing required.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Idaho or approved compact state licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required upon hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required upon hire or within one year of employment.
