Operating Room Registered Nurse
The surgical services department has four operating suites and one endoscopy suite. The average number of cases per day is eight. Common cases include ortho total joints, sports medicine, hands, trauma, general surgery, gynecology, C-sections, and endoscopy. Scrubbing is required for the role. Charge Nurse and House Supervisor roles are available in the department. There are certified surgical technologists and registered nurses to assist with scrubbing and room turnover.
All personnel are required to help clean and turnover operating rooms. The electronic medical record system used is Epic. Instruments are tracked using a specific system, and providers use another tool for endoscopy procedures.
Shift scheduling typically runs Monday through Friday from 0700 to 1530, with potential adjustments as needed. Weeknight call requirements start at 1530 until 0700 the next morning, typically four times per month. Weekend call requirements generally involve one full weekend per month from Saturday morning to Monday morning. Holidays may also require holiday call assignments. Call response time requires being within 30 minutes of the facility while on-call.
Floating responsibilities include covering endoscopy, and some experience in sterile processing and high-level disinfection is necessary. The dress code includes blue scrubs provided according to surgical services attire policy, along with appropriate footwear. Travelers will be paired with a preceptor for unit-specific training and orientation to departmental norms and values.
