Veterinary Surgeon – Ketchum, Idaho About the Role

A veterinary practice is seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Surgeon to join its collaborative, multi-doctor team in Ketchum, Idaho

The position offers a highly competitive salary of $145,000–$225,000 per year

Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced small animal surgical procedures and comprehensive pre- and post-operative patient evaluations.
  • Develop evidence-based diagnostic, surgical and treatment plans for complex cases.
  • Provide high-quality surgical and medical care while maintaining excellent patient safety and clinical standards.
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding diagnoses, surgical options, potential risks, prognosis and patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records and clinical documentation.
  • Prescribe medications appropriately and maintain compliance with pharmacy and controlled substance protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians, technicians and support professionals to deliver coordinated patient care.
  • Monitor hospitalised and post-operative patients and participate in clinical rounds and complex case discussions.
  • Support the development and implementation of clinical protocols and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues through clinical guidance, knowledge sharing and training.
Candidate Profile
  • Applicants should hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent from an accredited veterinary school.
  • Candidates should have completed a one-year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, emergency medicine or an equivalent programme
    , followed by a three-year AVMA-approved surgical residency
    .
  • Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an appropriate veterinary licence in Idaho.
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate advanced surgical, diagnostic and clinical capabilities alongside excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary veterinary team and a commitment to compassionate, evidence-based medicine are essential.
  • Veterinary surgeons with 2–5 years of post-residency experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
