Located in the heart of southern Idaho’s scenic Magic Valley, Thousand Springs State Park is one of Idaho’s most unique and geographically diverse park systems. Spanning approximately 2,000 acres across six distinct units, the park showcases the breathtaking natural springs, dramatic canyons, rich agricultural history, and iconic landscapes that define the Thousand Springs region. As a Ranger, you'll engage in a wide range of activities, including tracing the Oregon Trail, hiking through breathtaking landscapes, picnicking in scenic spots, fishing in the park's abundant waters, observing wildlife, and even horseback riding in the indoor arena at Billingsley Creek.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in both protecting park resources and enhancing the visitor experience. You’ll provide educational information about the area’s history, geology, and wildlife, lead interpretive programs and nature walks, and work with partner agencies to support public safety and ensure compliance with park rules. This position requires a current CPR and First Aid certification.

Rangers at Thousand Springs also help keep the park running behind the scenes. You’ll assist with hiring, training, and scheduling seasonal staff and volunteers, manage records and inventories, and follow purchasing procedures to ensure supplies are available for daily operations. Representing the park at meetings with user groups or partner organizations may also be part of your duties.

Facility and grounds maintenance is also a major component of this role. You’ll use a wide range of tools and equipment to care for park infrastructure and natural resources—everything from carpentry and irrigation to operating mowers, chainsaws, and other machinery. This also includes following pest management practices, identifying and treating noxious weeds, and helping ensure a safe, clean environment for visitors and staff alike.

1. Visitor Services and Resource Protection.

• Provides information to visitors and the public regarding park history and geology, plants, and animals.
• Conducts nature walks.
• Develops and presents interpretive and environmental awareness programs for park visitors, school groups, and organizations.
• Performs research for programs and displays Informs visitors of pertinent regulations of the Department as well as other partner organizations such as the Department of Fish and Game and Department of Lands.
• Collects fees.
• Ensures compliance with outdoor recreation program and park rules and regulations.
• Works with local enforcement agencies to give warnings.
• Patrols park to protect and preserve park resources from vandalism and abuse.
• Promotes public safety.
• Serves as liaison between the park and other enforcement agencies.
• Administers first aid, organizes, markets, and implements special events.

2. Administrative.

• Works with other park staff to hire, train, schedule, and supervise seasonal employees and volunteers.
• Prepares and maintains reports, expense transmittals, records, logs, and inventories.
• Purchases supplies and materials.
• Prepares research reports and procedure manuals.
• May represent the department at meetings with the public, user, and/or special interest groups and partner agencies.
