About Us

Traumatic brain injury affects thousands of people around the world. Our lab studies mechanisms underlying recovery following traumatic brain injury and has discovered that injuries such as TBI induce the hippocampus to activate neural progenitors which then populate and repair the injured hippocampus. We study the mechanisms underlying injury-induced neurogenesis, particularly those associated with the Alzheimer disease-related gene ApoE.

Position Responsibilities

In this position, the successful candidate will work independently under the supervision of the PI on projects related to hippocampal neurogenesis. The candidate will manage the PI's laboratory and train new lab members in appropriate techniques and laboratory procedures (maintaining records, etc.) as needed. The laboratory studies traumatic brain injury, with emphasis on hippocampal neurogenesis induced by TBI. Specific projects include determining the role of ApoE in this process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform simple or moderately complex technical procedures
  • Require only infrequent guidance
  • Frequent responsibility for ordering supplies and equipment for the laboratory
  • Occasional training or guidance of other technical personnel
  • Modification of experimental protocols
  • Analysis and interpretation of data on occasion
  • Occasional written contributions to papers and grant proposals
  • Understanding of moderately complex scientific literature and moderate understanding of research goals and rationale
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a related science and two to four and a half years of experience required, or equivalent skills and experience.

  • Familiarity with protein, pipetting, and general biology.
  • Experience with making solutions and pH'ing solutions.
  • Prior experience with animal work is preferred.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
