Job Summary & Responsibilities
The Instrumentation & Electrical Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and installing electrical and instrumentation equipment at a bioprocessing facility. The role follows electrical codes, ensures plant operation 24/7, and supports training and documentation.
- Diagnose and repair or replace parts, rewire and install instrumentation/electrical goods including conduit and wiring.
- Ensure compliance with local electrical codes for 4‑1600V, 480V, 220V, 110V, 24V DC and 4‑20mA loop circuits.
- Diagnose PLC/DCS I/O issues, including 4‑20mA loops and 120V/24DC I/O.
- Perform preventative maintenance and compliance procedures.
- Assist with emergency and scheduled shutdowns and regular mechanical duties.
- Calibrate, configure, and repair measurement/control instruments for flow, level, pressure, temperature, and pH.
- Maintain parts inventories and record inventory transactions.
- Document calibration records, work orders, and instrument logs.
- Provide training on electrical programs, Arc Flash Hazards, and electrical integrity.
- Respond to after‑hours calls, including weekends and holidays, in emergency situations.
- Promote a culture of safety, environmental compliance, and teamwork.
- Associate’s degree in electrical engineering technology or related program.
- Journeyman or Master Electrical License preferred; may be required.
- Minimum 1–3 years of related experience with 3‑phase systems up to 4160V.
- Knowledge of standard electrical equipment, PLCs, DCS I/O, motor control centers, transformers, and protective relays.
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC/DCS I/O and 4‑20mA loops.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.
- Experience reading PLC code, schematic wiring, ladder logic, and P&.
- Industrial network experience desirable.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and teamwork skills.
This position requires frequent physical activities such as:
- Lifting up to 60lb with occasional heavier loads.
- Climbing stairs and ladders and working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Pushing equipment and walking up to 2mi per day.
- Working in temperature ranges from –20°F to 100°F.
- Standing for extended periods and using hand, power tools, and PPE.
Drug screening and random testing may be required.
