Position: Social Services Social Worker 2 (SSSW-2)

The SSSW-2 shall coordinate with their supervisor in handling and investigating complaints/referrals of child abuse and neglect as presented from the community, law enforcement, schools, State of Idaho Health and Welfare, or any other source within the boundaries of the Coeur d’Alene reservation. The SSSW-2 shall provide case management to their clients and must be flexible in all aspects of this job.

Communicating or posting information or content on the Internet or using any social media platforms that adversely affects your job performance, the performance of co-workers, or otherwise adversely affects members, customers, or the Tribe and its administration negatively will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Must have strong customer service skills and the ability to defuse tense situations while maintaining a professional demeanor. Must be culturally sensitive to a diverse customer population and able to interact tactfully and positively with Tribal members, all levels of tribal staff and management.

The SSSW-2 must be able to perform all duties and assigned tasks in a timely manner and must assume a sense of ownership over all tasks. Must represent the Social Services Department in a manner that reflects the highest of professional standards and promotes a positive image of the Tribe and its administration at all times.

• Must be willing and able to investigate complaints/referrals of child abuse and neglect within the boundaries of the Coeur d’Alene reservation for Native American children and/or descendants;
• Must be able to work with law enforcement, the courts, etc., and be able to remove children from their homes who are not safe or victims of child abuse and neglect and perform duties associated with this action;
• Must be able to withstand scrutiny and criticism of community when dealing with the removal of children within the tribal community;
• Must have relevant experience in social services or related field;
• Must be knowledgeable in socio-economic factors that contribute to child abuse and neglect;
• Must be computer literate and able to navigate through various computer programs;
• Must be able to complete tasks and meet deadlines within expected program guidelines;
• Must be flexible and willing to complete various tasks within the social services programs that may not completely fall into the category of child abuse and neglect. These may include allegations of elder abuse, domestic violence, and other duties as assigned or required.
• Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written format;
• Must possess some knowledge of federal/state/tribal laws regarding Native American children and families, such as the Indian Child Welfare Act, or other various acts and/or be willing and capable of learning such knowledge and applying it to the job;
• Must be willing to travel and train and continually upgrade knowledge and skills for performing job duties;
• Must be willing to attend NICWA Training for social workers;
• Must have the ability to work with the court systems at the tribal/state/federal levels;
• Must be able to work with youth shelter staff and fill in at the shelter during business hours if necessary;
• Must be able to work with families in crisis and assist with problem solving and coordinate with other service providers;
• Must be able to handle large volumes of work and meet program deadlines;
• Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality;
• Must be able to work with various types of supervision;
• Must be able to follow the chain of command and comply with tribal codes and personnel policies;
• Must be reliable, dependable, and punctual in attendance;
• Must be willing to develop protocols within the program and assist with implementation of a constantly changing program.
• Must be willing to do other duties as assigned.

• AA degree, Social Services or Related Field.
