POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Waterfront Coordinator is responsible for supervising, training and scheduling all waterfront personnel and waterfront activities, including all swimming and boating, and ensures safe and positive waterfront experiences for girls ages 5-17. This position is also be accountable for the general safety and empowering the personal growth and skill development of the participants in their group.
The Waterfront Coordinator exhibits enthusiasm and patience while exemplifying the Girl Scout core values of honesty, caring, courage, and character.
- Assists in staff training prior to the arrival of campers, primarily focusing on training involving swimming, boating and supervising campers around the water
- Ensures waterfront staff attend to safety of campers at all times; follows and instructs waterfront staff on procedures for incidents and emergencies
- Provides general supervision of all waterfront staff during waterfront activities, provides feedback and encouragement as needed
- Works to create a positive group culture through team-building and problem-solving activities
- Manages the scheduling of all waterfront activities that occur on and off camp property and ensures proper ratios of lifeguards: watchers: campers are met at all time. The Waterfront Coordinator will be part of that schedule as a lifeguard as well as a manager
- Instructs Waterfront Staff on how to teach and encourages campers to progress various aquatic skills as well as proper use and care for equipment, clean up and following safety guidelines
- Instructs Waterfront Staff on how to plan, prepare, and implement age-appropriate programming and curriculum as needed
- Models personal responsibilities such as conflict management, positive relationships, following rules, and respecting camp property
- Follows and implements appropriate behavior management procedures when interacting with all campers
- Completes and submits all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner
- Exhibits punctuality and communication in time management, including daily and weekly breaks
- Respects and follows the “Camp is for the camper” philosophy by attending to camper and camp needs first.
- Represents camp appropriately in the community and with parents by maintaining personal hygiene, following camp dress code, and communicating respectfully with campers, parents and other adults.
- Actively participates in staff trainings, meetings, and camp closing activities, including but not limited to deep cleaning, lifting or moving equipment, taking out trash and closing inventory
- Reports concerns and incidents to Assistant Camp Director
- Practices the Girl Scout Promise and Law with an inclusive attitude and a willingness to problem-solve
- Follows all procedures and regulations according to the GSEWNI Council, GSUSA, and state and federal guidelines and laws and the American Camp Association
- Performs all other duties as assigned
