BUS AIDE Qualifications

  • Minimum experience as determined by the Board
  • Knowledge of bus passenger safety and effective discipline procedures
  • Ability to pass a physical agility test and prove ability to evacuate the bus, including the ability to move students
  • Able to maintain passenger discipline to ensure their safety and well-being and to protect against vandalism

    Transportation Supervisor

    Job Summary

    To assist the bus driver in providing safe transportation of students.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus
  • Assist the driver in observing the movements of passengers to be sure that none wander into the path of the vehicle
  • Ensure that only authorized pupils are transported and ensure that all students have left the bus at the end of the route
  • Check to be sure that all student‑passengers are dropped off at their correct location and that no passengers remain on the bus at the end of the bus route
  • Provide instruction to students regarding passenger safety and ensure that students wear their seat belts when the bus is so equipped
  • Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the bus and write up students that violate rules
  • Require all students to remain seated when bus is in motion
  • Do not allow students to consume soda, food, or gum on the bus
  • Participate in emergency evacuation drills in accordance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy and instruct passengers regarding safety regulations and other bus rules
  • Collect personal items left on the bus and deliver them to the school secretary
  • Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as attendance at in services
  • Seek assistance should emergencies arise
  • Represent the school district in a positive manner
  • Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Evaluation

    Performance of this position will be evaluated by the transportation supervisor in conformance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.
