Motor Vehicle Operator

Overview

Under supervision, the Motor Vehicle Operator will operate Library vehicles and be dispatched to move, transport, pick up and deliver furniture, equipment, books and other supplies and materials as assigned. The operator will also maintain the vehicles to ensure safe operation and acceptable mechanical condition. This is a full‑time, union, non‑exempt position. The hiring salary is $46,446.40.

• Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment.
• Transport Library staff safely to locations as directed.
• Transport Library materials to assigned locations.
• Assist in packing and unpacking Library books and materials.
• Participate in snow removal.
• Assemble furniture.
• Prepare reports, forms, and record activities as required.

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• A valid New York State driver’s license.
• Able to lift heavy objects (60 lbs or more).
• Experienced and able to use small hand tools.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work all shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Physical demands: must be able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position heavy objects; bend, stoop, crouch, and reach; transport library materials.
