Position Overview

This skilled role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment and commercial trucks to move, load, haul, and deliver aggregates, asphalt, and related materials. The operator/driver will support materials handling, assist with plant coordination, and ensure proper documentation, safety compliance, and equipment care.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties & Functions) Equipment & Truck Operation
  • Operate loaders and other heavy equipment to excavate, move, grade, lift, roll, and load aggregate materials.
  • Safely and efficiently operate dump trucks, end dumps, and/or belly dumps (with/without pups) including tarping systems.
  • Maneuver, back, connect, and disconnect pup trailers; doubles/triples a plus.
  • Conduct pre‑operational checks; clean, lubricate, and refill equipment as needed.
  • Assist Plant Manager with materials handling and equipment usage coordination.
Material Handling & Delivery
  • Deliver various aggregates, asphalt, and materials to assigned sites.
  • Maintain accurate time, material, and delivery records.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of aggregate types, sizes, and proper handling methods.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all traffic, safety, and equipment operation rules.
  • Communicate effectively using a two‑way radio system.
  • Report unsafe conditions; ensure proper use of equipment and materials.
  • Subject to DOT medical, drug/alcohol testing, and physical agility requirements.
General Work Expectations
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Prepare written or oral reports as needed.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with team members and customers.
Qualifications

Education / Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required or preferred depending on background.
  • 1–2 years of relevant heavy equipment or truck driving experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with required endorsements.
  • Valid DOT Medical Card.
  • Standard Driver’s License preferred for equipment operations.
Knowledge / Skill Requirements
  • Proficiency in safe loader and truck operation, including aggregates handling.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, write simple correspondence, and communicate effectively by radio.
  • Basic math skills; basic computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with a team.

Physical Demands
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move anywhere up to 50–80 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Environment
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
